The Legend of Iktómi

The reverse portrays a Lakota elder encountering Iktómi, the spider-shaped trickster and teacher of wisdom found in Lakota oral tradition.

In one traditional account, Iktómi weaves a web inside a willow hoop while teaching the elder about the stages of life, the choices people face, and the influences that shape their journeys.

The resulting web becomes a symbol associated with dreams, guidance, and the interconnected nature of life. The detailed engraving captures this traditional story through a dramatic, high-relief-inspired design.

Obverse Design

The obverse features imagery associated with the Mesa Grande Sovereign Nation, including an eagle, mountainous landscape, and tribal-style heraldic design.

The piece bears a $1 tribal denomination and is associated with the Mesa Grande Band of Diegueño Mission Indians, a federally recognized Native American tribe based in Southern California.

Important Note

This is a tribal-denominated collectible copper issue, not a United States Mint coin or a U.S. circulating dollar.

Its collectible value reflects its artwork, production, availability, and collector demand rather than copper melt value alone.

Copper can naturally develop patina, toning, or spotting over time. Store in a dry environment and avoid unnecessary handling of exposed surfaces.

Original packaging, protective capsule, certificate of authenticity, or display accessories are included only if specifically confirmed with the product.
